About Arloa

As a third culture kid, Arloa Ten Kley experienced many of the trials and emotions of trying to belong in various populations. Before the age of two, she had crossed the Atlantic Ocean three times. This cross-cultural movement continued most of her early life. She experienced life in multiple African countries and various locations within each country – in rural settings and metropolitan areas. She lived through three “coup d’etats”, in three different African countries, two which were successful, and one which was not. When she was 18, she traveled back to the USA for college and to find her way, mostly alone, in a country where she claimed citizenship, but had rarely lived.
Arloa writes children’s stories and mysteries. Both are genres which she loves to read. She also writes the occasional poem.
Arloa has a Bachelor of Science degree and has earned a living as a high school teacher, a quality control chemist and microbiologist for a pharmaceutical company, and as office personnel. She has worked overseas and in the US. She currently lives with her husband in a small resort town in the upper Midwest, volunteering her time working with children, making music, and writing.
